Speed of Processing – Hawk Eye

Why

This test allows us to understand the athlete’s eye for detail, and the speed at which they can process those details. Like all cognitive function, the faster your brain processes, the better you will perform. Moments in baseball can happen very quickly – from the pitch, to a line drive, to tagging someone out. The quicker the athlete is at processing what is going on, the more time they give themselves to react appropriately.

Test

This test is performed on a 4-light Witty SEM system set up in a straight line in front of the athlete. During the test, all of the semaphores will flash the exact same image except for one which flashes an image that is slightly different from the rest. The athlete must determine which of the semaphores flashed the unique image as they are flashed faster and faster over time.

Interpretation

Hawk Eye challenges your visual precision by asking you to locate specific objects in your peripheral vision. This helps the brain perceive what you see quickly and accurately, so that you can recall it better. Simply put, it increases your brain speed. Increasing visual precision will enable you to remember details more clearly and act on them more quickly

Fix

Speed of processing and visual precision can be trained in Cognitive School.
